Lead cast: Kim Woo-bin, Bae Suzy
The stars appear to have aligned for what will undoubtedly be one of the biggest Korean dramas of the year. Kim Woo-bin portrays an emotional genie who is freed from his lamp by a reserved young woman named Ga-young (Bae Suzy), to whom he granted three wishes.
Lee Byeong-hun (Extreme Job) directed Everything Will Come True, which was written by Kim Eun-sook, the mastermind behind The Glory.
6. Nine Puzzle
Lead cast: Kim Da-mi, Son Suk-ku
Following Narco-Saints, filmmaker Yoon Jong-bin is currently working on the small-screen thriller Nine Puzzle.
Kim Da-mi plays Yi-na, the lone witness to her uncle's death as a child. Ten years later, she works as a criminal profiler and encounters Detective Han-saem (Son Suk-ku), who suspected her of murdering her uncle years ago and has unable to let go of those thoughts. The unusual team begins to collaborate to unearth the truth.
5. Aema
Lead cast: Lee Hanee, Bang Hyo-rin, Jin Sun-kyu
With his debut K-drama, Aema, director Lee Hae-young, a believer, takes us back to the 1980s Korean film industry. A cunning producer, Jin Seon-kyu, casts the leading lady of the day, Jung Hee-ran, in the film Madame Aema, and Lee Hanee plays her.
Hee-ran is fired for being too much of a diva, and Bang Hyo-rin, who plays a rookie in real life, is chosen to take her place after auditions.
4. When the Stars Gossip
Lead cast: Gong Hyo-jin, Lee Min-ho
When the Stars Gossip, a sci-fi romance starring Gong Hyo-jin and Lee Min-ho, may be the year's most magnificent melodrama.
The series, set on Earth and in a space station, will follow the relationship that develops between Lee's obstetrician/gynaecologist and Gong's Korean-American astronaut. Gong will rejoin with Seo Sook-hyang, the writer of Jealousy Incarnate. Park Shin-woo (It's Okay to Not Be Okay) is the film's director.
3. LTNS
Lead cast: Esom, Ahn Jae-hongĀ
Jeon Go-woon (Microhabitat) and Lim Dae-hyung (Moonlit Winter) collaborate on the black comedy LTNS ("Long Time No Sex").
Esom and Ahn Jae-hong star in the series as a married couple who, after experiencing failures in their career and personal life, band together to blackmail cheating spouses. Will this provide the spark they need to rebuild their marriage?
The first two episodes premiered to widespread praise at the Busan International Film Festival in October 2023.
2. Squid Game 2
Lead cast: Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul
The second season of Squid Game will be the world's biggest television event this year. Lee Jung-jae and a few other faces return, but the show's unique format means it will feature a big number of new faces, many of whom are known.
The budget is extremely high, as are everyone's expectations. Is it possible for director Hwang Dong-hyuk to follow up on one of the most successful small-screen films ever?
1. Uncle Samsik
Lead cast: Song Kang-ho, Byun Yo-han, Jin Ki-joo
Song Kang-ho, a beloved Korean film performer, will finally feature in a K-drama, the period-set Uncle Samsik. Uncle Samsik, written and directed by Shin Yeon-shick, who also created Song's previous film, Cobweb, will feature the star as a morally flexible fixer who collaborates with a strong idealist (played by Byun Yo-han) in 1960s Korea to alter the country and bring it into the future.
